Each year, Murray participates in the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Musical Performance Adjudication (MPA). This is the climax of the year for our groups. Participating bands will be judged on three graded pieces of music and then will be judged on their ability to sight read a fourth piece of music that is new to them. The musical pieces are judged on tone, timing, blend, balance and musical effect.
Ratings are awarded based on the scale of:
- I - Superior
- II - Excellent
- III - Average
- IV - Below Average
- V - Poor
Our final rating will be published in the state educator journal.
Our students have been working very hard. Our dedicated Murray students gave up precious weekend time to rehearse after school on Friday until 7 pm, then again all day on Saturday in order to prepare for this important event. This extra practice time was spent working with professors from East Carolina University and UNC Wilmington. Our band students are excited to represent Murray in this competition. This year, both 7th and 8th grade bands will travel to West Craven High School in New Bern, NC. The performance date is Wednesday, 3/6/19.
