Falcons Engineer BioDiesel Fuel
Ms. Crace's 8th grade STEM students engineered BioDiesel Fuel at UNCW while on a field trip to the UNCW Marine Quest facility. Students worked in teams to create the green fuel from renewable resources. While waiting for the natural non-toxic glycerin byproduct to separate from the biodiesel fuel students collected plankton and used electronic microscopes to identify the zooplankton and phytoplankton that were captured. After fuel had separated completely students filled their lanterns and tested their products outside. They had to be ingenious to protect their flame from the wind.
